Trip Information

CMH didn’t just invent Heli-Hiking – we perfected it. Every CMH trip promises amazing mountain adventures and alpine hospitality to match. Whether you choose to escape to the Cariboos, Bugaboos or Bobbie Burns, you’ll enjoy gourmet meals, incredible daily heli-access excursions, inviting accommodations, all the equipment you need and more. Explore our three trip locations for additional information and select your ideal adventure.

CMH provides the following for each trip

Accommodations

A double occupancy room in a remote CMH lodge for the duration of your trip.

Food & Beverage

Three meals per day – a chef-prepared breakfast and dinner plus packed lunches, après-hiking appetizers and non-alcoholic refreshments.

Heli-Assisted Guided Adventure

ACMG-accredited guides will lead you on your adventure, featuring heli flights up and down the mountains plus return flights to your lodge.

Equipment

Use of CMH hiking equipment, including boots, rain jackets, wind pants, day packs and hiking poles. Some of our guests opt to use their own equipment – the choice is yours.

Ground Transportation

From Banff or Lake Louise to the CMH helipad, and return to Lake Louise, Banff or the Calgary International Airport (YYC).

What’s Not Included

Alcoholic beverages and retail goods available for purchase, massages, airfare to and from your city of origin and travel from airports to coach pick-up locations.

Travelling to our lodges

Option 1 | Ride the coach to the helipad. Fly from the helipad to your lodge

Ride in one of the private CMH coaches (from designated pick-up/drop-off locations). We also offer additional transport options if you’re looking for something more specialized – call us for details.

Option 2 | Drive yourself to the helipad. Fly from the helipad to your lodge

Drive yourself to the helipad using the google link listed under each area below. Make sure you’re on time, or better, early! If you’re late, extra charges will apply to fly you into the lodge.

Heads up! A Parks Canada Pass may be required

Please note that a Parks Canada pass is required to park in Banff or drive to our helipads. If you’re self-driving and require a pass, you can avoid lineups at the park gate by buying a pass online.

Banff - Bugaboos Helipad

Our private coach from Banff takes you along the spectacularly scenic Trans-Canada Highway then winds along a corridor lined with Rocky Mountains and epic forests toward Golden, BC.  From there, we'll travel southwest until arriving at the Bugaboos helipad.

It’s time to lift off on your first CMH heli flight. After watching a safety video, you’ll disembark your coach for your short, scenic flight up to the fabled Bugaboo Lodge.

Enjoy private coach transportation from Banff along a corridor lined with Rocky Mountains and epic forests toward Golden, BC. From there, we’ll travel southwest to Parson, arriving at the Bobbie Burns helipad.

After disembarking your coach, you’ll get to meet your pilot and receive a full briefing on helicopter safety before your quick, exciting flight up to CMH Bobbie Burns Lodge. Time to lift off!


Getting to the Cariboos

Banff - Cariboos Helipad

Our private coach from Banff takes you along the Icefields Parkway on your way to the CMH Cariboos helipad. Ascend through verdant forests, mammoth peaks, alpine lakes and plunging waterfalls on your way to where the mountains meet the sky.

Cariboos Helipad - CMH Cariboos Lodge

It’s “all systems go” as you prepare to take to the skies for your first helicopter flight. After watching a safety video, you’ll disembark your coach for the first helicopter trip of your journey to CMH Cariboos Lodge.

What you need to bring

  • Lightweight sweater/fleece and/or vest

  • Two long and short sleeved shirts or technical shirts

  • Comfortable pants for hiking (jeans are not recommended)

  • Two or three pairs of socks (wool or synthetic, thick and thin pairs)

  • Shorts (zip-off long pants/shorts combination)

  • Good quality sunglasses

  • Hat or ball cap

  • Warm gloves (be prepared for all types of weather)

  • Camera

  • Swim suit

  • Insect repellent and sunscreen

  • Indoor shoes/sandals

  • Clothes for warm-up class

  • Thin leather gloves (or similar) if you are participating in the Via Ferrata program (these are available for purchase in our lodge shop)

How to dress for activities

We recommend that you dress in layers while out hiking. This allows you to take a layer off as you warm up, and then add it back on later when you stop for a break or lunch.


What CMH provides for each trip

  • Technical, waterproof, leather hiking boots (Salomon, Tecnica, Garmont) - ranging from children’s size 12, 13 and 1-3, adults 4-14. All are medium width

  • Lightweight wind and rain resistant jacket

  • Rain pants

  • Day backpack and walking stick / ski pole

  • Water bottle

You are welcome to bring your own hiking gear — boots, day pack & rain wear, waterbottle, etc.

Laundry facilities including soap are available at all lodges (no charge)


What to pack each day of your trip

What a Typical Day looks like with CMH

There’s nothing quite like a summer adventure at CMH, where you’ll spend your day exploring mountain ridges and meadows that are so far off the beaten track, there aren’t any paths at all! Our trips are packed with scenery, activities, memories and laughter. Find out below what you can expect during a typical day on a CMH adventure.

Morning

Optional warm-up class

Rise and shine...and stretch. Begin each day by warming up your muscles ready for hiking or climbing.

Breakfast

Fuel up with a hearty breakfast. . Pack your lunch for the day and get ready for adventure through your choice of hiking or via ferrata climbing.

Gear up and fly out ACMG-accredited guides will accompany you on your adventure, with heli flights up and down the mountains.

Afternoon

Lunch in the field

Stop for a picturesque lunch in a remote location. If you’d rather relax for the rest of the afternoon, you have the option of flying back to the lodge.

Exploration continues

Continue hiking or climbing (if you opted in for the via ferrata). Expect more heli flights from spot to spot!

Fly back to the lodge

By late afternoon, we’ll fly you back to the remote lodge. Soak in the incredible views on the heli flight at the end of the day.

Apres-hike & relaxation

Return to the lodge where you can enjoy aprés-adventure refreshments, a soak in the hot tub or a relaxing massage.

Evening

Family style dinner

Swap stories of your incredible adventures in the mountains as you enjoy family style dinner with your guides and lodge staff.

Evening lodge activities

Take one last soak in the tub, gather around the campfire, capture photos of the stars and have a drink at the bar. The choice is yours!
